NAD+ where to buy: start from the pharmacist's sourcing rule

Most compounds we write about here have a blunt availability answer: no pharmacy stocks them, no clinician can lawfully write for them, and the only route is a vial of research material. NAD+ is not that shape of problem. Infusion bars, med spas and longevity practices advertise NAD+ drips openly, and a compounding pharmacy can prepare a preparation for a prescriber without hiding. The question stops being who is willing to sell to you and becomes what grade of powder you are paying for.

That reframing is not rhetorical. FDA sets an explicit sourcing rule for pharmacies compounding with bulk drug substances: the substance must be accompanied by a valid certificate of analysis, and it must have been manufactured by an establishment registered with FDA under section 510 of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The rule is stated plainly on FDA's bulk drug substances page. Nothing obliges a research-chemical supplier to meet that bar. Everything about whether your purchase is defensible depends on how close it gets.

Grade is the criterion, and nobody puts it in the shop window

Start with the one document that should change how you read every NAD+ listing on the internet. FDA published a compounding risk notice, content current as of 30 October 2024, saying the agency "is aware of compounders using food-grade nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) sold by repackagers to make intravenous products." The notice continues: "Ingredients identified as food grade are not suitable for compounding sterile drugs without appropriate processing, due to the high risk of contamination with microbes and endotoxins."

Then the part that turns a technical point into a purchase criterion. FDA states it "has received adverse event reports following use of NAD+ injectable drugs, including severe chills, shaking, vomiting and fatigue with some requiring medical treatment," and that "these reactions are consistent with excessive levels of endotoxins." The full text is on FDA's notice to compounders, and it is the single most useful thing anyone can hand a person about to buy this compound.

Read what that describes. Not a back-bedroom operation: licensed compounders, buying from repackagers, putting material never intended for injection into intravenous products. If that can happen inside the regulated channel, a research listing that says nothing at all about grade is not reassuring by omission.

So the first question you ask any NAD+ seller, in writing, before money moves, is whether the material is pharmaceutical grade or food grade, and where the source material came from. A vendor that answers cleanly has told you something. A vendor that answers with a purity percentage has changed the subject, and a vendor that does not answer at all has answered.

The certificate of analysis: identity and purity are the easy half

Almost every NAD+ listing worth considering publishes a certificate, and almost all publish the same two tests. High performance liquid chromatography tells you how much of the sample is the compound you ordered. Mass spectrometry confirms it is that compound. Both cost money to run, and neither answers the question that put people in a clinic chair with severe chills.

The test that answers it is bacterial endotoxins testing, usually the LAL assay, and it is reported in endotoxin units rather than as a percentage. FDA maintains a guidance on pyrogen and endotoxins testing if you want the underlying framework. In plain terms: a sample can be 99 percent pure by HPLC and still carry a load of bacterial cell-wall fragments that a purity assay is not looking for and will never report.

The other half of the certificate question is whether it belongs to your material at all. A batch-specific certificate names a lot number you can match against the vial in your hand. A generic certificate describes a batch that existed once, possibly years ago, at a facility the seller may no longer use. If the lot on the paperwork does not match the lot on the label, you have a well formatted PDF and nothing else.

Stock location, dispatch and the route back

The remaining criteria are about what happens when something goes wrong. Domestic stock matters more for NAD+ than for a small peptide vial, because a gram in transit for three weeks through a customs queue has spent three weeks somewhere nobody was monitoring the temperature. A published same-day dispatch cutoff is indirect evidence the material already sits in a warehouse in the country rather than being drop-shipped after you pay.

A written refund and replacement policy is the other one, not because you expect to use it but because a business willing to write one has accepted that it is the seller of record.
